An Awesome Adaptation Based on a Legend
Title: Robin Hood (Disney)
Adapted from: The Robin Hood legend

Robin Hood is one of my favorite Disney movies, so though there are a few Robin Hood films and TV shows out there that I could have chosen, this one immediately came to mind.  There's just something so heartwarming and sincere about the story in this one - perhaps it's the anthropomorphic animal characters which makes all of the character personalities very visual and easy to grasp so that their intentions and heart are all immediately apparent. The story takes all the important characters of legend and creates a plot focusing on the romance between Robin and Maid Marian.  It is a Disney film after all. But I find it so interesting that Disney also shows a lot of realism in the poignant scenes where the townspeople are put in jail for not paying their taxes.  I mean, seriously, it's so sad!  And I love that this film made me feel that emotional over these characters.

The best part is of course in Robin Hood himself  I mean, the first few scenes sets up his character so well - he's fun-loving, clever and lovesick over Maid Marian, and that scene where he dresses up as a beggar and saves the birthday of a little boy is so touching!  I just want to live in a world where every guy is a Robin!  Of course the character from legend is supposed to be compassionate and self-less and Disney just does a great job in showing that in just a few minutes.

The plot has some great, suspenseful moments as well, which makes it so entertaining to watch, and one of the other things I love about this movie is the music - the gorgeous little ballad as Robin and Marian walk by the water, to the stirring music as Robin makes his escape in the end.  And of course the catchy ballad Allan-a-Dale sings in the beginning and throughout.  I think this is a highly underrated Disney movie, it is truly so much fun to watch!

  1. Wow, I completely forgot this movie existed and how much I loved it too. I think I may need to get my hands on a copy and watch it with my kids.

  2. I need to see the Disney version again one day; it's been so long! Have you see the Russell Crowe Robin Hood? Completely different (obviously), but I liked it pretty well, though I know several people who thought it was just OK.

    1. Definitely, I think it holds up, now that I watch it when I'm older. Especially the poignant scenes of poverty.

  7. I love this movie so much! Definitely one of my all-time favorite Disney films. One time I was at a character breakfast in Disney World, and all the kids in the room started crying when Prince John came out; I was already a teenager then and was like the only person willing to take a photo with him, lol.

    1. LOL, omg why would they have Prince John come out? It should have been Robin or Maid Marian! But it's a funny story, poor kids!

  8. I can see that - I think this was my favorite Disney film when I was younger, but as I got older I got more into the Princesses... which is opposite to you. I'm weird like that. LOL

  9. This is one of my absolute favorite Disney movies and honestly, we would have put it right near the beginning of our Project Disney schedule if it hadn't taken them so long to finally release it on blu-ray. :)

I love the beggar scene too - it is lots of fun and it really shows off how resourceful he can be. Great choice! :D

    1. Is it out on blu-ray already? I can't wait for you guys to do this one for Project Disney - you can tell me just how close it sticks to the original Robin Hood lore - I'm not sure if what I know now is mostly cultural re-interpretations or from the source. So glad that so many people love this film - I'm emboldened now to go out and mention it more when people talk about Disney! :)
