Septemb-Eyre: Jane Eyre Readalong Kick-off post

Posted by Charlene // Tags: , , ,

Kerry @ Entomology of a Bookworm is hosting a readalong of my favorite book, (which I already reviewed with gifs here) so I just had to join in.  I've never participated in a readalong, period, so I think this is the perfect opportunity to start.  Especially since I haven't reread Jane Eyre fully in awhile and have been longing to do so!

The schedule breakdown:

September 2nd (I'm early): Kick-off post, introductions, why you're reading, etc.
September 9th: Chapters I-XI
September 16th: Chapters XII-XXI
September 23rd: Chapters XXII-XXIX
September 30th: Chapters XXX-End

Even though I'm also doing Classics Retold next month, spreading out the readings for the whole month should make it pretty easy to keep up.  I hope.  Obviously I'm participating because I love the book, but I'm also eager to share the experience with others - some who have never read the book before, so that will be interesting!  I should find out if they know the twist in the story beforehand actually...

As for plans, I just hope to have a lot of fun with this - I'm not sure in what form my weekly update posts will take but it's probably going to be mostly silly.  You have been warned.   And I will probably find new things to love about this book after reading it with other people!

  2. That's so awesome! I would read-along but I just recently read this book (for the first time) and fell in love with it. I don't think any character has truly stolen my heart the way Jane Eyre did. She's brilliant.

  5. Hallo, Hallo dear Charlene!! :)

I must confess, you have made me deeply curious about what your expressing in your post here, about the posts yet to come!! I reflected as much on this over on my own Introduction post!! :) I am going to be making my rounds on the morrow to all the lovely blogs, but I wanted to drop by yours first!! Its all rather exciting, eh!? I am still about less than 200 pages from wrapping up Pride and Prejudice as I fell a bit behind over the past week, as I was meant to have my review for Pride be active as of yesterday! :( Woe is me! Laughs.

This marks my first read-a-long, and if nothing comes up to mind to join next, Finnikin of the Rock shall be my second! :) Cheers!!

    1. I just dropped by your wonderful Septemb-Eyre post! So lovely to read how you came to this story and to finally join the readalong! I'm very excited about the event, but I haven't even started re-reading the book yet! I will start tomorrow. And I already have a bit of silliness planned for my first recap post, it was fun for me! :)

  7. I haven't read the book before, and actually have no clue what it's about, so I'm glad to see that there's a good mix of those who haven't read the book and those who have. It will be a fun discussion!

  9. I notice you have a gif/header from the 2011 film. Maybe it's premature to ask, but do you have a favorite adaptation of the book?

    1. Oh yes, I do - I love the 1973 BBC miniseries with Sorcha Cusack and Michael Jayston, and the 2011 film comes in second for me. And it's way easier to find gifs for this version. :) Do you have a favorite adaptation?

    2. I am frantically taking notes on which adaptation I should plan on watching first after I finish reading...

    3. LOL, I'm glad! I hope you like these versions as much as I do! I know the 1973 version can be a little too old-fashioned for some, but I think it follows the book more closely than others, and the 2011 film is a very summary overview of the whole story, but I loved the acting, directing and cinematography and I thought they captured the spirit of the story very well.

  10. Twist? What twist? (yes, there's an echo here :P) This is my first time reading Jane Eyre (which is awesome so far) and now the mention of "a twist" is causing my little brain to implode with curiosity! =D
